Surface Collecting

Surface collecting at Hungry Hollow can be very exciting, you can end up finding trilobites, crinoids, hyoliths, blastoids, etc. Crawling around on the floor of the quarry might sound hard to do but to make it easier to do surface collecting you can buy any or all of the following:

  • Knee Pads -  Available at Dollarama, Princess Auto, Canadian Tire, Walmart, Amazon
  • Yoga Mat - Available at Dollarama, Walmart, Amazon
  • Magnifier - Available at Dollarama, Walmart, Amazon
  • Garden Gloves - Available at Dollarama, Walmart, Amazon
  • Clear Plastic Compartment Cases or Containers to keep your finds sorted out and safe - Available at Dollarama, Walmart, Amazon
  • Spray Bottle to spray water over an area to make it easier to find fossils - Available at Dollarama, Walmart, Amazon
  • Kleenex or Paper Towel to wrap up your finds - Available at Dollarama, Walmart
  • Camera - To take pictures of your finds in situ
  • Trowel - Available at Dollarama, Walmart, Amazon
  • Thin Chisels to help dig out your finds Available at Princess Auto, Walmart, Amazon
