About Me - Brian Dear

When I was about 8 years old I used to climb and play on the limestone cliffs along the Grand River in Cambridge Ont. Where I noticed a number of "weird things" stuck in the walls. Over the next few years I would go down to the cliff with a hammer and chisel and dig out what I was told were fossils. I recognized the spiral snail shells but it wasn't until years later that I could put a name on the larger more abundant specimen. What I had collected turned out to be Steinkerns of Gastropods and a bivalve called Megalomoidea canadensis. But it wasn't until years later after speaking to a fellow worker that Iwas told about this place with the funny name "Hungry Hollow" and after one visit my interest in fossils was renewed. Now fifty years later I still enjoy a Spring time field trip to the area and never come away disappointed.
