About Us

The Arkona Lions Museum And Information Centre is located at Rock Glen Conservation Area in Arkona, Ontario. It's run by the Arkona Lions Club & the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority. The Museum opened August 9th - 1986. Within the Museum there is an assortment of locally found amazing Middle Devonian Fossils, Native Artifacts, Taxidermy, Minerals, Fluorescent Mineral Room, and an Arkona room with old pictures and artifacts of Arkona, Ontario. There are Education Programs put on in the Museum by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority Staff and the Arkona Lions Club. Over the past 2 years there has been a lot of upgrades to the Museum such as new display cases that make it easier for the disabled and also children to see the displays, displays are more informative, and the entire Museum has been painted and the ceiling tiles were all replaced. Every year there will be more improvements made to the Museum to make it more educational. At Rock Glen you are allowed to collect one fossil per person. Fossils can be found by the beautiful waterfall and throughout the gorge that goes to the Ausable river, were you can find more fossils along the formation there.
